First Roots Blog

Well we wanted to start up a way that middle schoolers and their parents could regularly see content of what is going on at Roots. For any of you that don't know why we call it Roots-here's the answer. In Colossians 2, Paul writes that he was excited to know that even though he wasn't there with them to guide their every decision, they had a strong and deep faith in Christ. He goes on to say in verse 7 that this is due to "roots" they have. Strong roots are important for several reasons in nature and in our lives. The first is that is how we are fed and grow. To get the things that will make us grow up strong we need strong and deep roots. The second is that they are anchors when storms come. If a tree or a person has very shallow roots, a strong storm will pick them up and blow them away. Major damage can be done! But with roots in the person and work of Christ and the other key doctrines and teachings of Scriptures, students will be anchored to face the storms that will surely come. The last thing is that roots provide connection. This is related to the idea of growth in that through this connection to the source (Jesus Christ) we will grow. But roots also connect with other trees and with other roots. The do this for communication, strength and growth. We want to provide opportunities for middle schoolers that will ground their faith in Bible and give them the strength, wisdom and courage to face the storms in their lives. We will regularly be posting pictures from our Wednesday night meeting as well as other events that our middle schoolers attend. There will also be release forms and other forms that you will be able to download off of this page. Along with those things you can check out a monthly newsletter for parents and a newsletter for students. So stay tuned and feel free to post comments when you like something or have a question.
Grace and peace,
Matt
